Cutting the top off a mountain!
When there’s no flat land for miles around, and you need to build an airstrip, what do you do? Cut the top off one of the mountains, of course!
MAF and partners in Myanmar, are working together to build an airstrip in the town of Lailenpi, Chin State. Currently, the journey to the nearest town is a four-day drive along dangerous mountain roads.
The airstrip will allow planes to bring in supplies and take people to hospital far quicker and more safely than driving. Progress has been good, with the trees and soil being cleared and the runway being paved so that it won’t wash away during the rainy season.
The Vice President of Myanmar even came to see how the work was progressing – a very special guest indeed!
The amazing construction team has been using a drone to take footage of the mountain as it transforms into MAF’s runway – the sheer drop from the edge of the mountainside is incredible!
Villagers in Lailenpi have already expressed their excitement. ‘Praise God for this good news,’ said one. ‘We hope and pray that the Lord will continue to guide MAF until all the remaining steps are met with success and joy.’
Once the airstrip construction is complete, we trust that it will lead to further projects, and that MAF will be able to start a flight service for Myanmar’s people.
