After talking about medical safaris in Tanzania, Foxtrot continued, ‘It’s also brilliant when MAF gets to be a flying ambulance and perform medical evacuations, a.k.a. “medevacs” for short.’
‘Recently, one of the many medevac flights I piloted in Timor-Leste was for a little boy named Bendito who was only six years old. I flew with my friend Pilot Ping and we took him to hospital as he’d caught a horrible illness called dengue fever.’
‘How long would the journey have been without MAF?’ asked Alpha.
‘Just 15 minutes of flying instead of over 3 hours in a car on terrible roads!’ replied Foxtrot.
‘I know which I’d rather do if I was poorly!’ said Alpha.
‘Yes, Bendito wouldn’t have survived if MAF hadn’t have flown him. Thankfully, he got the treatment he needed in time and is now feeling all better,’ said Foxtrot.
‘I know the team in Timor-Leste are always really busy, flying injured and sick people to hospital,’ said Alpha. ‘The MAF Timor-Leste team always give the sick people a care pack too – filled with food, water, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, as well as some clothes and a phone voucher so people can contact their families.
‘The bags sound like a simple and practical way to show Christ’s love to those in need, and helps them to not be afraid, like Isaiah 41:10 tells us, ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you.’
Across the whole world MAF flies hundreds of medevacs each year, saving many lives!
